Guidelines: “My Very Self” is a personal project where you will create a self-portrait. Self-portraits are great to photograph as the model always knows exactly what the photographer wants and vise-versa.  Also you can shoot for long hours without getting complains such as “ I am cold, I am hungry, and I want to go home.”

Every famous master of the past has created a self portrait. It’s very personal and highly rewarding subject matter. So shoot and share yours.

All portraits must be recently taken, after May 1, 2011 (we will check metadata of the image).

How to Submit:

log in to your account or sign up for a free learnmyshot account.  Then use share your shot link in comments. When the box opens, please click on the orange question mark for instructions.  Submission must be made before midnight on June 15th, 2011.

The winner will be announced on this page, as well as in our newsletter, facebook and twitter

About the prize:

Colcalor gels are color calibrated filters by Rosco. What this means is that the gels will reduce only a particular color in the spectrum while enhancing the other.  (Brochure is included with the Kit and explains the technical part.)

Gels can be used for special effects (as we did in water droplet tutorial, and scary photo tutorial) but they can also be used for altering white balance, which is unique to CalColor.

In the video above , we used #4390 cyan gel, to alter the color of the cityscape background.

Steps:

  • Attach the gel to go over the light source. In our example, we used a shoe-mount camera flash (these gels can be used with any lights, strobe tungsten, clamp lamps).

  • What will happen is the camera will now think that the light is coming from the gelled light source is balanced to white. This will convert the color of the background, which is exposed by sunlight, to the opposite color of the gel. In our case, the Cyan gel turned the background to Red.

Post your “My Very Self” below using share your shot link in comments box.  self portrait ebook
